Voices Of kanthari

Come on a journey around the world.

We take you to sunny Kerala, a village in Kenya and the mountains of Peru – all this without leaving your living room. Enjoy traditional music from four continents: Africa, South America, Europe and Asia. But you will not visit only countries, you will get to know sources of social change. Every musician contributing to this CD promotes positive social change in his country. The artists are mostly former participants of kanthari. Others are kanthari staff who play an important role in supporting participants for newly established projects. below you can read more about the projects of the contributors to this CD.

Alexei
Alexei from England was a catalysts at kanthari. He supported participants in their efforts to start their own projects.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nosisa
Nosisa was a 2011 kanthari and comes from Zimbabwe. It is her dream to create a positive change of the attitude towards people living with HIV/AIDS.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Keith Sabwami
Keith Sabwami from Kenya (kanthari 2011). His dream is to set up a film factory for school drop outs in the slums of Nairobi. He also played a major role in the production of the CD.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nelson

Yoshimi Horiuchi
Yoshimi Horiuchi from Japan (kanthari 2009) has set up a mobile library for disadvantaged groups who live in rural areas of Thailand. Her project is titled Always Reading Caravan (ARC)..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pynhoi

Shihab
Shihab from Kerala, India was a 2011 kanthari participant. Shihab wants to transform the negative concept of people with low vision into a positive concept of blind plus in order to improve the situation of partially sighted people in Kerala.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Beatriz

Sabriye Tenberken
Sabriye Tenberken: Sabriye is the co-founder and co-director of kanthari. Sabriye was the main editor and sound engineer on the production of the VOICES of kanthari CD.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anja Pfaffenzeller
Anja Pfaffenzeller from Germany (kanthari 2011). Anja was the head of the production team of the CD. Now she started “Bats in Action” in Brasil. Her organisation empowers blind children to enroll in schools.
